Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you were to be trapped in the midst of a powerful cyclone? Drayton Manor's enterprise ride will give you a taster of it. Although Cyclone opened quite recently (2003), it is a classic flat ride that appears in the line-up of many UK theme parks, but still provides an excellent ride.
As you near the end of the queue you will feel this ride's power as wind is thrown in your direction. Leaving your baggage behind, you next climb a set of steps up to a circular platform where the stationary carriages will be sat awaiting you. You can ride with either one or two people in one carriage, but the first thing you should notice is that there is absolutely no restraint to hold you in. No seatbelt, no lap bar, you can just take your seat on the floor of the cabin and pull shut the sliding door. This ride is very unique, because the force of the ride |
spinning will keep you in your seat.
The ride begins and you start by just spinning round in circles at ground level, and as the speed increases your cabin is sent outwards on its side, floating a few feet above the floor. Once it is spinning at full speed, an arm will begin to raise the frame from the centre slowly until it is vertical. As it does this, the carriages may wobble about slightly. Once vertical the carriages will be passing from near the floor to upside-down at the top numerous times, but you can still remain firmly in your seat. Eventually, after several revolutions, the arm will return back down to its original position, until you are back at ground level, and the ride begins to come to a halt.

Though it doesn't look it, the ride is actually quite calm and soothing, as the mix of lighter and stronger Gs acts on your body, you do just remain seated normally. It may, however be a problem for those with a high nausea tolerance.
