Have your world turned upside-down as you enter the wrath of Drayton's latest flat ride. Put your body through forces of nearly 4gs as you swing through 360 degrees at heights approaching 80 feet. It is utter pandemonium.
New for 2004 "Pandemonium" replaced "Sky Flier" next to Apocalypse and became Drayton's latest thrill. It consists of two giant gondolas on the end of two arms, each holding 32 riders, making a massive 64 riders in total. The gondolas swing like a pirate ship in opposite directions until they meet upside-down at the top, then keep swinging until they eventually swing the full 360 degrees. The large capacity considerably speeds up the throughput, and if you want a front seat, there are sixteen of them! |
The Experience
As Pandemonium has a large capacity, the queue doesn't often get too long, therefore it just simply winds back and forth a few times beside the ride. You join it through a mechanical looking entrance to fit the ride's theme with cogs etc. The queue's duration will often just last the duration of the ride before yours, so you should normally be on it in no time. When you board the ride, you may wish to ride on the front of the ride providing the best views, but if you don't have a chance you will have to ride in the middle where you'll notice is very cramped. If you don't fancy sitting opposite someone you don't know in case they kick you or throw up on you, it is advisable you sit opposite your friend if possible. This also gives you good views of

their facial expressions as you endure the ride.
Taking your seat you will notice that you will be very well secured, with your own individual shoulder restraint which is very stiff to pull down. You will then have a metal restraint that comes down over your whole row providing you with something to hold onto. Once the all clear is given the gondolas slowly, and for some unnoticabley, begin to rise until they are a few feet from the floor, then start swinging. After a few back and forth swings of mixed Gs you will finally near the top when it seems like you're going to make it all the way round, but you just hang upside-down for seconds which seem to last ages. Everyone is silent, and you hear the clatter of loose change as it falls to the floor, until eventually you swing back down the way |
you came where you hear many breathe a sigh of relief. But there is another swing to follow in which you will recieve seconds more hang-time before just making it the full 360 degrees. The speed will continue to increase as you begin to make it round with more ease, but of course you need to slow down again, which will include a couple more swings giving plenty of time at the top. Following this you will return to the pirate ship routine of swinging back and forth, with the angle you reach decreasing with each swing. Finally you will reach a halt as the gondolas are lowered again, ready for you to depart the ride through the exit near the Flying Dutchman.
Pandemonium deals numerous unique experiences, which together make it an excellent ride, and for some, the best ride in the whole park! |
